I remember the first time I listened to this book I was way through it before I realised what she was supposed to be saying! Then there are some very odd long "a"'s in there, they were earlier on in the book and I can't remember them off the top of my head now, but they make your spine crawl. For example, I find it hard to believe that any British person doesn't know that "Vauxhall" is pronounced "Vox-hall", but no for some reason in this book it is "vo-hall". The regional accents I have no experience of, but when she reads the aristocrats, she has some very odd pronunciations! I'm relistening this book again and it's annoying me enough to write a review. Even if Society could accept a serving girl duchess - can a roguish duke convince a serving girl to trust him with her heart?Īs is often the case with these books, narrators take on some funny pronunciations when they're reading "posh" people, such is the case with this narrator.
